Hello Friends!
Having graduated from Alaska Pacific University in
Environmental Science and Outdoor Studies last May, I find myself
reflecting on all the life-advice I have received through the
years. The most profound guidance has echoed from countless
voices over and over: "Be true to yourself and follow your
dreams." As cliché as the saying may be, I can't imagine
that so many people could be wrong. So, now I am living out one
of my dreams.
This summer, I will be embarking on a journey of a
lifetime. I will hike the 500-mile Colorado Trail in honor of
the 2.5 million people known to be living with Multiple Sclerosis-one
of which, as you may know, is my Mom, Thiah (Cindy) Doherty.
Mom has always enjoyed the outdoors, and truly, my
parents were the ones who inspired my passion for backpacking and
other outdoor pursuits. Indeed this passion grew to become the
focal point of my studies and profession in the field of Environmental
Education. Mom will be in my heart every step of this trip.
Hopefully, her goal to be present on a portion of the trail will
become a reality as she attempts to join me on horseback for a full
week!
My goal for this journey is to spread awareness about
the devastating effects of Multiple Sclerosis, and more importantly,
to gather funds that can make a real difference, for MS research and
for organizations that offer support and comfort-giving services to
people living and coping with the disease. I hope to exceed my
goal of trying to raise $5,000 ($10 for every mile I hike).
Now, I ask for your support in funding the journey
toward this goal. Your donation is tax-deductible, so please use
the "COLORADO TRAIL MONIES FOR MILES" guidelines below to
find the right donation level for you. This mission truly cannot
take place without your support.
If you have children, you can let them participate for
a penny a mile!
Any amount will help!
